New Stable UHSDR Release 2.12.0 available

Hi,
yesterday we released a new stable release 2.12.0 of UHSDR firmware. This is basically everything collected in the last years in 2.11.xx releases plus a couple of recent smaller fixes like the CAT issue with the WINTEST program and issues with the STM32F7xx processor.
We recommend to upgrade to this release, especially if your are using an STM32F7xx processor, and will provide bugfixes if needed in 2.12.x releases. As a stable release we will not add new content to the 2.12.x releases, but may fix serious bugs.
Of course, development continues focussing on making the UHSDR firmware fit for use with more advanced concepts like DDC/DUC rf hardware and also more flexible in terms of hardware configuration in general.

Hi,
where it usually is, on Github. Of course, such answer would beside the point, so here is the link:

Hi,
to clarify even further: the UHSDR 2.12.x releases are supporting only mcHF RF Board compatible hardware, such as the original mcHF from v0.4 to v0.6.x, the OVI40 UI with STM32F7 or STM32H7 combined with a mcHF RF board, or a couple of compatible designs like the Eagle and Sparrow from Artur, SP3OSJ, the miniTrx from Helmut, OE3HKC, checkout this page: https://github.com/df8oe/UHSDR/wiki/Supported-Hardware and a couple more.
The 12.2.x will not supporting FPGA based RFboards.
The support for such kind of operation is currently being developed actively and will be released as UHSDR 2.13.x development releases when we see it mature enough. But there is no secret here. For everyone how wants to see what is going on on this side, we have the branch directsampling-dev on Github: https://github.com/df8oe/UHSDR/tree/directsampling-dev. The code there has been restructured and is undergoing further restructuring to make it fit better to the needs of an ecosystem of different hardware concepts being supported by the UHSDR firmware. It should work on any already existing UHSDR compatible TRX but we may break things as we cannot extensively test all of these devices for every change we do. That is why we are not making official development builds out of this branch. But feel free to build it by yourself and give it a try. For instance this permits 96k wide spectrum to OVI40 based receivers with an mcHF RF board (not for mcHF). So our work here will also provide some improvements for existing hardware.
As Andreas wrote in his post, the complementary side, that is the respective FPGA hardware and code for running the RF side is going to be made public and released under true open source licenses like we do this for the OVI40 hardware and UHSDR firmware already. But this is not yet available to the public. But different collaborating groups have working hardware on multiple TRX all controlled by the UHSDR firmware from this branch. It looks very promising.
Stay tuned.

the only thing missing is DSP operation.

Could you please explain what does it mean? So far every DSP functionality works fine, although I did not test the wide FM receive for broadcast stations with SParkle.

Will this work with our old 512k memory units?

Hi,
Yes, of course. It does work with 512k machines. For 2.12.0 like for 2.11.xx we have been able to deliver same binary for 512k and 1024k mcHF.
This may change in future releases if we add more functionality, but we will announce when this occurs.
