Hi Chuck,
it is probably the CW decoder. Last entry in CW menu.

Firmware D2.9.72 Bootloader 4.1.2
I have never noticed that the Xmit LED stopped working if you have the CW decoder turned on . I will have to experiment with that.
Thanks, Chuck |

I experimented on my radio and yes that will cause the issue.
But my friend just emailed me and it did NOT solve it on his radio. Still looking for answers. Chuck |

Hi Chuck,
there is no other code directly accessing the red led in the current firmware except the CW decoder, TX indicator and the VSWR protection (this was not in 2.9.72) . I did not check if we removed code between 2.9.72 and 2.9.89 using the red led.
Please tell/help your friend to upgrade the bootloader and the firmware to the newest version. Due to the "famous" bootloader issue we are not wasting our time to search for strange issues with machines with bootloader versions less than 5.0.x.
And then report if the issue went away.
