Title: I can't install modified firmware on my UHSDR-QRP transceiver v_0.6.3
Post by: LEO73 on 09. December 2024, 23:08:46
Hello to everyone, i tried to update firmware unfortunately transceiver not enter in maintenance mode.
I read, for a last version board, is not necessary install bootloader because new firmware will be inside the eeprom. However I'd like to load, inside transceiver modified 2.12.0 SatoryBoy(for CB frequencies) version but using old procedure is impossible! 1) insert on usb port pendrive with inside last modified firmware. 2) turn on transceiver pushing together "power on" button and "BAND-" button. Unfortunately transceiver not enter in firmware load mode but enter in display calibration, like the pictures. In old update manual there's wrote to close P6 jumper unfortunately in my board there is any juniper to close.
Here my board picture link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QbcNImXA6naD0_IJ8UnZ23lV5Gw7x1bP/view?usp=drivesdk
What is right procedure to update firmware please. ::)

I cannot tell how to install modified firmware because it is not supported by UHSDR team. But you need bootloader in every case ynd here you find the description how to install firmware (https://www.amateurfunk-sulingen.de/wiki/doku.php?id=en:uhsdr:uhsdrbl]bootloader[/url] and [url=https://www.amateurfunk-sulingen.de/wiki/doku.php?id=en:uhsdr:uhsdrfw). The description is for OVI40 UI board, but it matches mcHF mostly.

Dear Andreas, Thank you to your kindly reply, I went in your suggested links, I downloaded last DfuSeDemo + usb DFU ST7micro electronics driver unfortunately the ST7 USB DFU driver is not recognised by windows 10. I shot a screen situation so you could understand the problem.
Below link to update and driver program downloaded: klick (https://www.st.com/en/development-tools/stsw-stm32080.html?dl=cb7tt07YMvlW4i6HG96aGA%3D%3D%2C3DUfV2J%2BdR1v%2BdOTL%2BGm%2FOXU0eLFUDA6O0QFyTsyko%2F613qGcbH6VzC9%2BvlI3d7HaWr1cDC684lKN%2F504W3s4qSSSxUJ92SbDrqPp8RZTDDBEGS8jKkVu70MQPDf72kNa3T9BYL4iAxiFYLzUvMyE9RbYLrnAlxJD4MG1e3MfyLBGmRo6t9aWnjDUQuJnZo7FoW5cWz8%2B%2B5bdtGc9VjGGoouthcoTCZwNsvp8I2XZO9zzCtypZ1%2BO8IMSwE0W0YnQ1yR8y%2FOVbK5s%2BiZknzd6UtakEmMr6D6f2PUmsmNGrgY3pgJzAUD7RRUyX3xs9Taztm5f7ODK90UgB8Xtu41fQ%3D%3D&mkt_tok=ODU2LVBWUC03MTUAAAGXT0F-lZHhYTJWEIODdiUtKaHKJxBdOlPRcVOKRlNyOvnfTmdZ6RcIKNCn4mVb_IaApcffR4UxHTM3oipX4u3e5WQjk0xYd0Wc3GDWpbcidA)

EDIT: Is this a chinese clone? Often these clones are using undocumented modified hardware and are no longer compatible to UHSDR at all...

A kindly Hello to Every one and Andreas, Andreas, i Hope It not be a Cinese clone! The logic Board seems like original transceiver pictures ! I found problem about windows not recognised DFU drivers; Previous days I not found P6 jumper(on the logic board) so procedure bootloader update want P6 Jumper closed. So I found P6 jumper and close it. When I punched <Power> and <band - > and plug DFU power to the computer windows recognized DFU driver and I install last Bootloader. After bootloader installation you need to open P6 jumper.
Another problem is about firmware Update, I think about last UHSDR-QRP v.0.6.3 board version (made in 2019 year) have another display model; mine is: HY28B SPI(display controller ILI9325) because I tried all modified firmware by StoryBoy and any one firmware version are not good for my transceiver. In particular, after firmware update, display is fully white! Probability display drivers about there modified firmwares not compatible for my display. Tomorrow I'll try another time tu load the modified firmware. Just one think: I saved my original firmware file version(for my transceiver UHSDR-QRP HF SDR) and this file is ~950 kbyte! It is most big than previous original or modified firmwares. I share it below (firmware version 2.12.2). PS. I bought this transceiver also because modified firmware permitted me to transmit at normal power on 27Mhz (CB bands) with original firmware I can't; I can transmit only at 0.5mW . :-\ Leonardo. |

Congrats for the stepping forward! It may be that modified firmware based on an UHSDR version which is buggy regarding display drivers - I do not know. You can test with original UHSDR (right button at the top button list here at the discussion group) and see if it works. If, you cannot use modified firmware.
UHSDR does not support TXing on CB because of it is not legal in any country of the world to use self brewed devices for CB TX ;) and if you want to use TX for experimental use 0.5mW is enough... We did not want to open the door for everyone to TX there out f the box - in our mind this is supporting breaking laws. But of course you can dig into the code and find the part which is responsible for cutting down TX power and modify it by yourself - UHSDR is Open Source! If you get caught while TXing on CB you cannot say "I didn't know..." and UHSDR team has pointed you to that.

Dear Andreas, I imagined that transmitting with HF transceiver on the CB band was not legal! otherwise how can they sell other CB equipment? ;D I made a test using original Firmware upgrade and it's work fine! You was right! So problem is modified firmware that not have right library for lastest mounted displaies on the logic board (v.0.6.3) in last 2019 year! I have some skills in programming 8-bit PIC microcontrollers using the C compiler. However, this is a STmicrosistem processor, I don't know which compiler to use to try to make some changes to the code. Is Eclipse (free version) used as a compiler for this project? Do you have a link to download it and a simple tutorial that explains how to use it quickly? My life always seems to be made up of only climbs and obstacles! You can never rest enjoying the work of others! " Never a joy!! " :) Leonardo. |

| Of course you can transmit on CB bands - but not with homebrew equipment! Also amateur radio devices without explicite CB approvement is not allowed. CB radios do have their own registrations and approvements and are strictly seperated from amateur radio.
I am coding on Linux command line. There are a few editors on console which supports syntax highlighting and correct handling of CR, CR/LF and TABs... Compiler is gcc-arm-none-eabi in version 8-2019-q3-update, because this one gibes the smallest binary so that it fits to MCU flash. Im am using Makefile.
