Title: Please upgrade your UHSDR bootloaders to 5.0.1
Post by: DB4PLE on 23. November 2018, 22:33:26

Hi,

EDIT: H7 owners: Please wait until updating the bootloader! 5.0.1 has a serious issue, which disables the DFU update capabilities. This applies to STM32H7 based TRX only, mcHF and Co, as well as OVI F7 can use 5.0.1.
Sorry!

EDIT EDIT: 5.0.2 is out and works on all machines including H7 as expected.

we discovered yesterday a serious issue in our UHSDR bootloader code. This wrong code may have caused many different interesting issues (not booting machines, crashes when using zoom and probably many others) when running any firmware. It potentially affects all firmware versions we ever released.

To be clear, the problem is in the bootloader, but affects the firmware. For details read https://github.com/df8oe/UHSDR/issues/1610#issuecomment-441123556 . It potentially affects all machines running the UHSDR bootloader using STM32F4xx (mcHF, Eagle, ... ), STM32F7xx/STM32H7xx (OVI40, Sparrow, ... ) processors.

We release a fixed bootloader 5.0.1 to solve that issue. Upgrading the bootloader is described here:

https://github.com/df8oe/UHSDR/wiki/Bootloader-Installation

BTW, those running the original M0NKA bootloader may or may not be affected by a similar issue, we simply don't know and will not investigate this either. So it is up to you entirely if you replace these bootloaders.

Anyway, since this bootloader issue may have unexpected impact, please upgrade to the newest bootloader before reporting firmware issue. Thank you!

Newer firmware will check if you are running a fixed bootloader and ask you to upgrade if you are running an older UHSDR bootloader version. Yes, it is that serious.

Hallo Thomas,

Hi,

for all who already flashed the bootloader 5.0.1 on a STM32H7 based machine (and only for those): I broken the DFU update in 5.0.1, so please accept my apologies and open the TRX, set the P6 jumper and flash the 5.0.2 bootloader once Andreas released it. Of course, the ST-Link can be used as well...

Yes, quality control was a little bad today. I thought I had tested it sucessfully on the 5.0.1, but this was on 5.0.0 and of course, I did a mistake in 5.0.1

Additional informations:

It is not that we ar not willing to look at M0NKA bootloader - we cannot do this because it is closed source. No possibility to look or to investigate anything.

Same here...
H7 (SParrow) and F7 (I40) update to 5.0.2 without any issues. Booting and functions all error free.
Same with the now as well available 5.0.2 bootloader for mcHF !
Thanks a lot to the SW team for the good work !

Hi Peter,

5.02 for mcHF and OVI40/F7 is in fact identical to 5.01 except one byte (the version number "1" moves to "2") - please take a look here (https://www.amateurfunk-sulingen.de/forum/index.php?board=19;action=display;threadid=1239). This fact gives interesting stuff for hopefully intense discussion ::)
